Online Mid-Semester Student Feedback

We're transitioning our recommended method for collecting mid-semester feedback to Canvas, using an Anonymous Quiz format. This keeps the process simple and fully integrated with your course.

You can still use other tools—like Google Forms or SurveyMonkey—if you prefer. Just make sure the feedback remains anonymous and focused on student learning.

Get Started in Canvas

We’ve created a step-by-step guide that walks you through importing our mid-semester feedback Anonymous Quiz from Canvas Commons into your course:

Access the Canvas Guide (Login Required)

Once imported, you can publish the quiz, share it with students, and edit the questions as needed. The quiz uses our standard open-ended prompts and does not collect student names.

Why Collect Mid-Semester Feedback?

  • Make timely adjustments while the course is still in progress
  • Demonstrate care for students’ learning experiences
  • Gather actionable input on what’s working and what could improve

Example Questions

  • What’s helping you learn well in this course?
  • What’s getting in the way of your learning?
  • What could the instructor change or continue doing to support your learning?
  • What could you change or continue doing to improve your own learning?

Tips for Success

  • Set expectations with your students—it’s short, anonymous, and used to improve the course
  • Give students a few minutes in class to complete it
  • Review the responses and share 2–3 things you learned and how you’ll respond

Have Feedback on the Process?

We're still refining these resources. If you run into any issues or have suggestions for improvement, let us know so we can pass them along to our team.
